The Facts About How We Adapt Psychology, the study of human behavior and mental processes, is a social science that use principles and theories to help people and psychologists understand ourselves and others. Psychology helps people figure out why they are the way they are, and why things happen the way they do. Psychology was created in 1879 by Wilhelm Wundt, but has psychological thoughts and traces from as far back as over 2,ooo years ago. Psychology gives reason to things that happen that cannot be seen or measured. Psychology, in other terms, helps us understand human behavior and how internal or external forces affect our behavior. One psychological theory that attempts to explain why humans are the way they are is functionalism.â⬠¦show more contentâ⬠¦I was diagnosed with depression, and was sent to a hospital for suicidal thoughts, depression, anorexia, and suicidal attempts. After I left the hospital, my dad changed me schools, and thatââ¬â¢s when I moved to Pione er. Functionalism played a huge role in my life at that point in time, because there were so many things I had to do that I hadnââ¬â¢t done before. I had never been the new student anywhere. I had went to the same school, in the same corporation since I started school. I was out of school for two weeks, so I had to learn how to handle and do all of the homework that I got when I first got there. I hadnââ¬â¢t been in school for 2 weeks, so I was behind and had to catch up on 2 weeks worth of lessons. I didnââ¬â¢t know anyone at Pioneer, so I had to make all new friends. I had to figure out how to fit in. Most importantly, I had to learn how to have time management skills, with having a new combination of things I had to do: go to counseling two times a week, do homework, hang out with friends, and study. For someone who didnââ¬â¢t care about grades or my performance in school prior to the incident I had, this was a big change. Being a functionalist for me was when I had to make all new friends, after going to school for years, always being around the same people Iââ¬â¢ve been around since kindergarten. I had to adapt by catching myself up to where my classmates were at, with no help. I had to adapt by managing my time properly.
